Kia is entering the EV race in India with something bold and new. The Carens Clavis EV is not just another electric vehicle; it’s a spacious, three-row MPV that’s priced smartly and offers features normally found in premium models. It blends practicality with futuristic design, making it a strong contender in the electric segment.
Range and Battery
The Carens Clavis EV offers two battery options to suit different needs. The bigger 51.4 kWh battery provides a claimed range of 490 km on a single charge, making it ideal for long trips. A smaller 42 kWh battery is also available, delivering up to 404 km of range as per ARAI testing. Both battery packs support 100 kW DC fast charging, which charges the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 39 minutes.
Driving Experience
Lower variants come with a 132 hp motor, while top-spec models offer 169 hp. Torque remains constant at 255 Nm, regardless of the variant. During the first drive test in Bengaluru, the Carens Clavis EV showed smooth performance and confident acceleration. Kia has also included paddle shifters to adjust the level of regenerative braking with four settings.
Safety Features
Safety has been given special attention in this MPV. The Carens Clavis EV comes with Level 2 ADAS and includes 20 autonomous driving features, ensuring smarter and safer driving. On top of that, 18 more safety technologies are bundled into the car, giving drivers and passengers greater peace of mind.
Design and Colour Options
Visually, the Clavis EV sticks to Kia’s “Opposites United” design theme. It looks modern yet familiar, borrowing cues from the petrol-powered Carens. Buyers can choose from six colour options, including Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, and a unique matte Ivory Silver.
Variants and Pricing
The Carens Clavis EV is available in four trims – HTK Plus, HTX, HTX ER, and HTX Plus ER. Prices start at ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable electric MPV in India today. Kia has already started accepting bookings for this model.
