Skoda Kushaq: Skoda Kushaq has made a strong impression in India’s subcompact SUV segment. Released four years back, this SUV has gained a customer favorite status. SIAM data reports that Skoda retailed 88,913 units of Kushaq from April 2021 through to May 2025. This indicates how much trust Indian consumers have in Kushaq. Of the total 1,15,436 SUVs Skoda sold in this period, Kushaq contributed 77% of the sales all by itself, assisting Skoda in establishing a strong presence in the expanding SUV segment.

Made for India

Kushaq is produced at Skoda’s Pune facility in Chakan with 95% local components. This SUV was specifically engineered for India’s compact SUV market under the India 2.0 initiative. Skoda developed this initiative to reduce the cost of cars and localise them for Indian customers. Kushaq is based on Skoda’s MQB-A0-IN platform, specifically developed for India. The same platform underpins the new Skoda KaylaQ SUV.

Impressive Start and Sales Growth

Right from the first day, Kushaq impressed with its well-balanced design and comfort while driving. In its inaugural year (FY2022), Skoda retailed 21,427 Kushaq SUVs, accounting for 98% of Skoda’s SUV sales for the year. The following year, FY2023, was even better, with 25,300 units sold. This was an 18% increase compared to the previous year. Skoda retailed 27,005 SUVs in the year, and the proportion of Kushaq remained high at 94%. These figures confirm Kushaq is a hit in India.

Engine Choices

Kushaq is only offered with petrol engines. Customers have two turbo petrol choices: a 1.0-litre engine or a more powerful 1.5-litre engine. The engines both have manual and automatic gearbox choices. The SUV is characterized by its well-balanced ride and handling. Although features are lacking in comparison to competition, Kushaq still provides a useful and smooth drive.

Kushaq is equipped with ample contemporary features. There is a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. There are several other features like a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, wireless charging of the phone, and push-button start/stop. These features enhance comfort and convenience, and Kushaq feels like a premium product in its class.

Price and Competition
