ATM Charges: Big news for bank customers. Especially if you are a customer of Canara Bank, then todays article is made for you. The bank has updated some ATM transaction fees starting from September 1, 2026. The changes include reducing the number of free ATM transactions for general savings account holders per month.
The charges for transactions exceeding the free limit and for failed transactions due to insufficient funds have also been modified. Nevertheless, the limit on free ATM transactions for senior citizens remains the same. If you are a Canara Bank customer who frequently uses ATMs, it’s crucial to be informed about these new charges.
1. Change in the number of free ATM transactions
– Previously, general savings account holders were entitled to six free ATM transactions per calendar month. This has now been reduced to five, covering both financial and non-financial transactions. Non-financial services like balance inquiries and mini statements are now included in this limit. On the other hand, senior citizens can still enjoy eight free transactions per month.
2. Changes in non-financial transaction fees
– Charges for non-financial transactions at Canara Bank ATMs after exceeding the free limit remain unchanged at ₹5 plus GST. However, fees for financial transactions such as cash withdrawals have increased from Rs 20 plus GST to Rs 23 plus GST. This also applies to transactions conducted through ICCW, like cash withdrawals via UPI.
3. Increased charges for failed transactions
– In cases where an ATM transaction fails due to insufficient funds, the fee has risen from Rs 17 plus GST to Rs 23 plus GST after exceeding the free transaction limit at Canara Bank and other banks’ ATMs. Customers making transactions without sufficient balance may face additional charges.
4. Positive changes for customers
– Canara Bank has reduced the fee for regenerating a green PIN after surpassing the free limit for specific card types. The fee has been lowered from Rs 23 to Rs 5 for Classic, Standard, Platinum, Business, Select, and World cards.
For savings bank account holders, 1 free transaction (financial or non-financial) is allowed per calendar month.
For senior citizen customers, the number of free transactions has been reduced from 6 to 5 per month, effective September 1, 2026. For financial transactions beyond the free limit, including cash withdrawals and ICCW (UPI cash withdrawals), the charge has increased from Rs 20 + GST to Rs 23 + GST.
The fee for exceeding the free limit on non-financial transactions remains Rs 5 + GST. In case of insufficient funds in the account beyond the applicable free transaction limit, the charge has also been revised from Rs 17 + GST to Rs 23 + GST, effective September 1, 2026.
The adjustments effective from September 1st have lowered the free ATM limit for general customers, increased certain transaction costs, maintained senior citizens’ free limits, and reduced fees for services like Green PIN regeneration. Canara Bank clients should be mindful of their free limit and applicable fees while using ATMs.
