IRCTC Ticket Booking: Booking tickets via the IRCTC website often involves significant hassles, but relief may soon be at hand. Indian Railways is taking a new initiative; the central government has announced the launch of a new and upgraded IRCTC website.
Once launched, users will no longer face difficulties booking tickets, including under the ‘Tatkal’ (emergency/immediate) quota. The central government plans to launch the new IRCTC website by July 15, 2026, and it is expected to be highly efficient. This decision was made in light of the recurring issues and slow speeds associated with the current website.
Railway Minister Gives Surprising Answer to Student’s Question
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared this information while interacting with students at the Malaviya National Institute of Technology in Jaipur. A student asked why people face so many problems during online ticket booking, especially during peak traffic times. In response, the Railway Minister asked an official present at the event if the new website could be launched within 30 days. He then informed the students that the new website would be launched by July 15. Videos of this interaction went viral on social media, sparking discussions about the IRCTC upgrade.
Why is this needed?
Passengers have long complained about issues such as CAPTCHA failures during booking. The website frequently hangs, OTPs are delayed, and the entire process often gets stuck midway—particularly during Tatkal ticket bookings. Railways expects the new platform to largely resolve these issues and improve the overall ticket booking experience.
What changes can be expected?
According to reports, the new website may include features designed to make ticket booking faster and easier than before. Passengers can look forward to a quicker booking process, an enhanced capacity to handle high traffic, clearer information regarding Tatkal ticket status, seat selection options, and a more user-friendly interface. Railways states that these changes aim to minimise website crashes, delays, and other technical glitches.
