Pradhan Mantri Yashasvi Yojana 2026: Get Up to ₹1.25 Lakh, Apply Using New Method

The phenomenon of stopping education due to lack of money is not new in our country. Many talented students, especially from economically backward and other backward communities, get the opportunity to pursue higher education but cannot sustain it due to financial constraints. To solve this problem, the Central Government has launched Pradhan Mantri Yashasvi Yojana, through which students from class 9 to postgraduate level can get various types of scholarships and financial assistance.

This scheme is being run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It is a financial assistance program specially designed for students from OBC, EBC and DNT communities.

What is Pradhan Mantri Yashasvi Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Yashasvi Yojana is actually a sub-scheme under the PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme. Its main objective is to provide financial assistance to socially and economically backward meritorious students to continue their studies at the school and college level.

Under this scheme, three main types of scholarships are given – pre-matriculation, post-matriculation and top class education. The scholarship amount varies according to the specific class and course.

Who can apply?

To apply for this scheme, certain eligibility criteria must be met—

1. The applicant must be an Indian citizen.

2. The annual family income must be within a certain limit.

3. The applicant must belong to the OBC, EBC or DNT category.

4. The scholarship will not be available if the same course is repeated.

5. A maximum of two children from a family can get this benefit.

What are the scholarships offered?

1. Pre-Matric Scholarship

This scholarship is applicable for students of class IX and X. An assistance of up to Rs. 4,000 is provided annually.

2. Post-Matric Scholarship

Scholarships are given in different groups according to different courses after class 10—

3. Top Class School Education Scheme

The amount of financial assistance in this section is more—
Class 9th and 10th: Up to Rs 75,000

Class 11th and 12th: Up to Rs 1,25,000

4. High-quality college education scheme

  • The benefits in the field of higher education are more extensive—
  • Up to Rs 2 lakh for full education in private institutions
  • Up to Rs 3.72 lakh for pilot training in private flying clubs
  • Additional Rs 5,000 for books and stationery
  • There is also provision for construction of hostels and residential facilities for students.

How to apply?

Application in this scheme has to be done completely online. Application has to be done through National Scholarship Portal.

Step-by-step application process:

1. Make a new registration on the NSP portal.
2. Create ID and password.
3. Log in and select the relevant scholarship.
4. Fill the application form correctly.
5. Upload the required documents.
6. The nodal officer of the school or college will verify it online.
7. The state government will give final approval.
