How to Download IRCTC App to Book and Cancel Tickets Online, Know Full Detail

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, or IRCTC, has completely transformed the rail travel experience through its online ticketing system. Nowadays, most travellers reserve tickets from the comfort of their homes. The new version of the website and mobile app has made the booking process simpler, faster, and more reliable than before.

How to download the IRCTC mobile app

If you haven’t yet installed the app, open the Google Play Store on your Android smartphone and type “IRCTC” in the search bar. When the official app appears, select the “Install” option. Once the installation is complete, open the app and log in with your user ID and password. New users can first complete the registration process.

Process to book tickets from the IRCTC mobile app or website

After logging in, select the “Create a Trip” option on the home screen. Enter your departure station, destination station, and travel date. A list of available trains will appear, allowing you to select your preferred train and class.

After checking seat availability, enter passenger details such as name, age, and mobile number. Payment options include net banking, debit or credit cards, UPI, and e-wallets. Upon successful payment, the e-ticket is sent to your registered email address and mobile number. You can also show a digital copy during your journey.

Easy Ticket Cancellation Process

If your journey is cancelled for any reason, you can easily cancel your ticket online. Log in, go to your booking history, select the relevant ticket, and then choose the cancellation option.

A fixed fee is charged for ticket cancellation within 48 hours of the scheduled departure time, depending on the class. ₹240 is charged for AC Executive or First Class, ₹200 for AC 2 Tier, ₹180 for AC 3 Tier or Chair Car, ₹120 for Sleeper, and ₹60 for Second Class.

If a ticket is cancelled between 48 and 12 hours, 25 percent of the total fare is deducted. However, if the cancellation is made between 12 and 4 hours, 50 percent of the fare is charged as a cancellation fee. The remaining amount is refunded to the original payment method.

Benefits of Digital Ticketing for Passengers

The online system has relieved railway passengers from long queues and wasted time. Features like instant availability check, secure payments, and quick refunds have made travel more convenient. Ticket management, booking history, and cancellation services are available on a single platform through a mobile app.
