Ration Card Apply: The ration card-making process has now become completely digital. The Delhi Government’s Food, Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department has clarified that under the new rules, only online applications will be accepted. All members of each family must have an Aadhaar number, and it is mandatory to provide it in the application.
Official sources stated that online applications will be thoroughly scrutinized. Food supply officers will monitor the process and, if necessary, conduct field visits to verify applicants’ details. During the application process, officers may also ask relevant questions about family members.
Ration Card Quota and Application Process
Delhi has a total quota of 7.2 million ration cards. The government plans to initiate the process of making over 800,000 new ration cards. This step is taken to fill the vacant ration card numbers left by cardholders who have died, migrated, or surrendered their cards.
The government notified the Delhi Food Security Rules on February 4, 2026. In accordance with these rules, an SOP has been developed, which includes the complete process and guidelines for applying for a new ration card.
Family Head and Application Procedure
According to the new rules, the eldest female member of the family (aged 18 years or above) will be designated as the head of the family. If the female member is under 18 years of age, the eldest male member of the family will be the head.
The head of the family will submit the application online through the e-District portal. It is mandatory to attach copies of the Aadhaar cards of all members with the application. If a member’s address differs from the Aadhaar card, proof of residence in Delhi, a family income certificate issued by the Revenue Department, an undertaking of eligibility, and a copy of the electricity bill must be submitted.
e-KYC and Mobile Verification
Now, e-KYC for ration cards can be completed from home using mobile phones. This eliminates the need for citizens to travel to apply for ration cards. Furthermore, verification of all members on the ration card will be done individually, ensuring data reliability.
