New Delhi: The Central Government runs several relief schemes for the welfare of the poor, which are proving beneficial at the grassroots level. The Central Government is implementing a scheme that provides immediate financial assistance in case of road accidents. Accident victims can be treated without paying any money. You might be wondering what this scheme is.
The Central Government has launched the PM Relief Scheme. The purpose of this scheme is to save the lives of the injured by providing financial assistance. Many people who are injured in road accidents die due to a lack of adequate treatment. But this will no longer be the case.

The PM Relief Scheme will prove to be a boon for the needy. It was recently launched. The benefits of this scheme can be understood in detail below.
Benefits of the PM Relief Scheme
According to the Central Government’s PM Relief Scheme, accident victims can receive treatment up to a maximum of ₹1.5 lakh without paying any money. Simply put, the treatment will be free. The insurance cover provided by the government will be valid for a total of 7 days. If the accident is not life-threatening, then stabilisation treatment will be available for one day, i.e., 24 hours.
Furthermore, if life-threatening, treatment will be provided for 48 hours. Hospitals will soon be identified for this purpose. Police confirmation is required for free treatment at the hospital. This is done through an integrated digital system. This confirmation is required within 24 hours for non-life-threatening cases and within 48 hours for life-threatening cases.
If an accident occurs and someone at the scene calls 112, this emergency system will be activated. This means that information about the nearest designated hospital will be obtained, and an ambulance can be called from there. Treatment can be initiated only after reaching the hospital.
Where will the hospital get its funding?
The PM Relief Scheme will be a boon for road accident victims. This scheme is being jointly implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the National Health Authority. The hospital will receive treatment funds from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund.

If the vehicle is insured, it comes from general insurance companies. If not, it is from a hit-and-run case or from the government budget. Overall, once the claim is approved, the State Health Agency will provide the funds to the hospital within 10 days.
Learn about the complete process.
The entire process of the PM Relief Scheme is digitalised. Road accident reports are linked to the eDAR platform, and hospital claims are processed through the Transaction Management System 2.0. This speeds up the process and makes everything faster and more transparent.
