According to the tale of Vijaya Ekadashi, when Lord Rama was heading to Lanka to rescue Sita from Ravana, his army faced a huge hurdle in crossing the ocean. It seemed impossible to get across without any means of transport. One of the Vanara army members suggested that they seek advice from Sage Vakdalbhya, who lived in a nearby forest. Lord Rama quickly went to see Sage Vakdalbhya and shared his dilemma. The sage informed Lord Rama about the Vijaya Ekadashi fast and assured him that if he followed the rituals properly, he would definitely succeed in his mission. The sage emphasized that observing this Ekadashi fast could help accomplish even the toughest tasks.
After that, Lord Shri Ram, Lakshman ji, and the whole monkey army observed the Vijaya Ekadashi fast with great devotion and worshipped Lord Vishnu according to the rituals. They also stayed awake all night. Thanks to the fast, Lord Shri Ram received divine assistance. The very next day, the ocean god appeared and showed them how to cross the ocean. Following this, Nala and Neel began building the bridge, and soon enough, the Ram Setu was completed. Thus, Lord Shri Ram and his army crossed the ocean, defeated Lanka, and rescued Mother Sita.

The Vijaya Ekadashi fast is not broken until sunset on this day, but is broken on the Dwadashi Tithi. Therefore, the auspicious time for breaking the fast on Vijaya Ekadashi is from 7:00 AM to 9:14 AM on February 14, 2026. If the fast is not broken during this time, it should be broken until the Dwadashi Tithi ends (until noon).
