Major Change in Toll Tax System, Tolls Will Now Be Deducted Automatically

Toll Tax Without Toll Plaza: The country’s highway network is expanding rapidly, and millions of vehicles travel long distances every day. However, stopping at toll plazas wastes a significant amount of time for travelers. Even after the implementation of FASTag, long queues and traffic jams persist in many places. To address this problem, the government has introduced a new and modern technology.

In Surat, Gujarat, the country’s first toll system has been launched where there will be no barriers at the toll plaza. Vehicles will be able to pass through without stopping, and the toll will be deducted automatically. This system uses high-quality cameras, GPS technology, and automatic number plate recognition technology. This will make toll payment completely digital and seamless.

How Tolls Will Be Collected Without Toll Booths

In the new system, cameras installed on the road will scan the number plate of every passing vehicle. Even if a vehicle does not have a FASTag, it will still be identified based on its number plate. Such cases will be considered a violation of toll rules, and an e-challan will be sent to the vehicle owner.

Cameras equipped with radar and lidar technology in each lane will monitor from all sides. All information related to the vehicle will reach the control room and NHAI servers in real-time. This will make it almost impossible to pass without paying. This technology is already being used in countries like the US, Dubai, and Australia.

What Happens If There Is No Balance in FASTag?

If a vehicle has a FASTag, but it does not have sufficient balance or has been blacklisted, the system will still identify the vehicle. Such vehicles will be categorized as defaulters. The vehicle owner will be immediately notified via SMS and mobile app. If the FASTag is not recharged within the stipulated time, an e-challan will be issued.

Toll Evasion Will Be Difficult

This system will also keep a close watch on those who deliberately try to evade tolls. Due to the cameras recording from all directions, it will not be easy for any vehicle to escape detection. In the future, this barrier-free toll system may be implemented on other highways across the country. This will provide travelers with a faster, smoother, and uninterrupted journey.
