New Passport Application: If you are planning to travel abroad and need a passport, you can now easily do it yourself. The government has significantly simplified the passport application process. You no longer need the help of an agent and can apply directly online. To apply for a passport, you should have the necessary documents and information about the fees.
Documents Required for a Passport
Some documents are essential for obtaining a passport. To prove your date of birth, you can submit one of the following documents: 10th-grade mark sheet, Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, or driving license. For address proof, you can submit an electricity or water bill, ration card, income tax assessment order, Voter ID, Aadhaar card, or bank passbook. Additionally, it is mandatory to fill out Annexure Form-1, which proves that you are a citizen of India and have no criminal record.

How much does a new passport cost?
The fee for a normal passport is approximately Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000. If you need a passport urgently, you will have to pay some additional charges. Therefore, you should have at least Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000 in your account.
How to apply online
First, go to the Passport Seva website: https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in.
Click on the “New User” box to go to the registration page.
Select your city and ensure that your name is spelled exactly as it appears in your documents.
After completing the registration, go back to the website and click on the green “Login” button.
Then, log in by entering your email and password.
Now, click on “Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport”.
You will get two options: download and fill out the form, or fill it out directly online. Filling it out online is the easiest way.
While filling the online form, choose the options for a new passport or reissue, normal or urgent, and 38 pages or 60 pages.

Fill in your personal information correctly and click on “Submit Application”. Next, go to “View Saved/Submitted Applications” and select the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” option.
Choose the online payment option and select the date and time for your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
Complete the payment by clicking on “Pay and Book Appointment”.
After payment, you will see an Appointment Confirmation. Print this confirmation.
Process at the Passport Seva Kendra
On the day of your appointment, go to the Passport Seva Kendra with your printed application receipt and all the required documents. If all the documents are in order, the process will not take more than two hours.
