Mohammed Siraj will play as the captain of the Hyderabad cricket team in Ranji Trophy 2025-26

This appointment follows his return to the ODI team during the ongoing series against New Zealand. Hyderabad remains in contention for a place in Elite Group D, so the selectors have handed Siraj the captaincy for the final phase of the tournament. Hyderabad has a total of two matches to play in the remaining Ranji Trophy season, where Miyan Bhai, aka Mohammed Siraj, will be captaining.

Of these two matches, Hyderabad will play its first match against Mumbai on January 22nd and the second against Chhattisgarh on January 29th. Both matches will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Currently, Hyderabad is in fourth place in Group D with 13 points. If the team performs well in these remaining two matches, it may qualify for the quarterfinals.

Although Tilak Varma was the team’s captain before Siraj, he recently underwent surgery. Tilak will need at least three weeks to recover from the surgery, which is why the Hyderabad team management has entrusted the role to experienced fast bowler Siraj.

Siraj, 31, a veteran of 109 internationals – including 45 Tests, 48 ODIs and 16 T20Is – has featured in 19 first-class matches for Hyderabad. He has taken 77 wickets at an average of 23.29 and a strike rate of 45.2. Overall, Siraj has played 88 first-class matches and has claimed 309 wickets at an average of 26.44.
