The Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-check team has investigated and clarified that this claim is completely misleading. The Reserve Bank of India has not made any such announcement. It also stated that there is no ban on 500 rupee notes and they have not been withdrawn from circulation.
The PIB has appealed to people not to believe such viral posts and to refrain from sharing them. Similar misleading messages about 500 rupee notes have spread on social media several times before.
