IRCTC Refund Rules: It wouldn’t be wrong to call the Indian Railways the lifeline of the country. It is one of the world’s fourth-largest rail networks and transports millions of people to their destinations every day. However, sometimes trains get cancelled for various reasons, especially due to fog during the winter season. In such cases, passengers who have booked tickets become quite distressed. While the inconvenience caused by train cancellations cannot be eliminated, there is a facility to get a refund for the ticket price.

How to get a refund if the train is cancelled?
If you have booked your ticket online, there is no need to worry too much. As soon as the train is cancelled, the refund process for your ticket starts automatically. In most cases, the money is credited back to your account within 2-3 days, and sometimes this process can take up to 7-8 days.

However, if you have purchased the ticket from the counter, the refund process is different. For counter tickets, filing a TDR (Ticket Deposit Refund) is mandatory for a refund. If a person has booked a ticket from the railway counter and the train is cancelled, filing a TDR is necessary. You will receive the refund only after filing the TDR.
