What does an inactive PAN card mean?
An inactive PAN card doesn’t just mean a useless piece of paper; the associated losses can be significant. Once your PAN becomes inoperative, you will not be able to file income tax returns. The KYC process linked to your bank account may be halted, and transactions related to mutual funds, the stock market, or other investments may also be affected. Even large financial transactions may face problems, as PAN is considered an essential identity document.

How much penalty will be charged after the deadline?
If a person links their Aadhaar and PAN today, December 31, 2025, they will not have to pay any additional fee. However, to link after January 1, 2026, it will be mandatory to first pay a late fee of Rs. 1,000. The linking process will proceed only after the fee is paid. Although the amount is not very large, the inconvenience caused by a non-functional PAN card when needed can be far more serious.
