The “Coach Mitra” service offered by Indian Railways is designed specifically to give train passengers an easy way to complain about the amenities provided on board the train. ‘Coach Mitra‘ service will deal with any and all complaints related to the cleanliness of trains and toilets, cleaning of the toilets, lights, AC, and disinfection of the trains. Passengers no longer have to call or go to multiple locations to file complaints; Coach Mitra is a single-window service for passengers to file one complaint regarding each of the above reasons.

The Coach Mitra service is available on over 2,000 trains across the country. If you notice a dirty/train coach or toilet while using the Train for travel you can send an SMS message to report it. To do this, simply send the CLEAN 10-digit PNR to either 58888 or 9200003232. If you would like, you may also send an SMS to 58888 or 9200003232 and send “CLEAN 1234567890 TOILET CLEAN.”

Indian Railways, apart from cleaning the entire train, also provides a separate code for each coach issue. You can report toilet-related issues by using this code along with your PNR number. T– Toilet cleaning, C – Coach cleaning, W – Water refilling in coach B – Dirty bedroll or sheet, P – Pest control, E– Light or AC malfunction, R – Minor repairs.
You can directly call to complain about unhygienic conditions of train toilets. Indian Railways has also provided numbers for this purpose. You can complain by calling 139 or 138. You can call these numbers for quick help regarding cleanliness. Railways claims that you will get help within 15 minutes of calling these numbers.

If you want to file a complaint online about unhygienic toilets in trains, the best way is through the railway website www.cleanmycoach.com. You can submit service-related complaints using your 10-digit PNR number and mobile number. Alternatively, you can also file a toilet-related complaint through the Railway Ministry’s Rail Madad mobile app.

If the train toilet is dirty, file a complaint here-
- To do this, you just need to install the Rail Madad app on your phone. You can find this app on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
- Once the app is opened, click on the Complaints section.
- Here you can select the type of complaint you want to file. Here you will get several options and select Coach Cleanliness.
- Select the same option in the sub-category below. Select ‘Toilet’ in the sub-category. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen and fill in the required information, such as the date.
- Then, submit your complaint. Within 10 to 15 minutes, someone will come and clean the toilet and leave.
- Also, if you face any kind of problem during the journey, you can also file a complaint about it.
RailMadad App Process
You can file a complaint regarding any issue including medical safety, staff behavior, food provision, water, etc. You need to select the most appropriate category for your issue. Also, if you have a medical emergency or safety issue, you can also file a complaint by calling 139.
