PAN Card Update: A PAN card is crucial for all essential investment, banking, and tax-related activities. From opening a bank account to filing income tax returns, a PAN card is required everywhere. Therefore, if there is any incorrect information on your PAN card, such as a spelling mistake in your name, incorrect date of birth, address, or mobile number, it can cause problems with many tasks. Sometimes, even a small mistake can create difficulties in accessing services like loans, KYC verification, or tax refunds.

The good news is that correcting your PAN card is now much easier than before. The Income Tax Department has made both online and offline facilities available through NSDL (Protean eGov) and UTIITSL. Now, people can correct errors in their PAN cards from the comfort of their homes.

Online PAN Card Update Facility

If there is any error in your name, date of birth, address, or mobile number on your PAN card, it can be corrected online. For this, you need to visit the official website of NSDL or UTIITSL, where you will find the option for PAN card changes or corrections. After filling in the necessary information, a token number is generated, through which the further process is completed. You need to select the information you want to change, enter the correct details, and upload the relevant documents. After paying the fee, the application can be submitted. Upon completion of the application, an acknowledgment slip is provided, which can be used to track the updated status.

Offline Method to Correct PAN Card

For those who are not comfortable with the online process, an offline method is also available. Under this method, you can fill out the “Request for New PAN Card and/or Changes or Correction in PAN Data” form and submit it to the nearest PAN service center. Along with the form, it is necessary to provide proof of identity, proof of address, proof of date of birth, and your old PAN card. After the application is accepted, an acknowledgment slip is provided, which can be used to track the application status.

PAN Card Update Fees

The fee for correcting your PAN card depends on whether you want only an e-PAN or a physical PAN card as well. The fee for an e-PAN is lower for people residing in India, while a slightly higher amount is charged for a physical card. The fees are higher for applicants residing abroad. There may be a slight difference in fees if changes are made to the photo, signature, or other biometric information.

How long will it take?

After all the necessary procedures and documents are submitted correctly, the updated or new PAN card is usually issued within 15 to 20 working days. If there are any deficiencies in the documents, the process may take longer. The e-PAN card is usually received sooner, while the physical PAN card may take a little longer to arrive by post.
