PAN Card Update: If you have a PAN card and haven’t linked it to your Aadhaar yet, this news is extremely important for you. The Income Tax Department has once again clarified that linking PAN with Aadhaar is mandatory before December 31, 2025. PAN cards that are not linked to Aadhaar after the deadline will be deactivated and cannot be used for any financial or tax-related transactions.

It is important to note that common people may face several problems if their PAN and Aadhaar are not linked. Important processes such as large bank transactions, investments, mutual funds, stock market transactions, and filing income tax returns may be affected. The Income Tax Department has already clarified that no exemptions will be given for unlinked PANs.

What the Income Tax Department has said

According to the official Income Tax website, it is mandatory for those who were issued a PAN on or before July 1, 2017, to link their PAN with Aadhaar. This facility has been made available to both registered and unregistered taxpayers on the e-filing portal to avoid any technical difficulties.

Separate rules for new PAN applicants

For those who are now applying for a new PAN card, Aadhaar-based verification has already been made mandatory. In such cases, the PAN is automatically considered linked to Aadhaar upon issuance, and there is no need for separate linking later.

Process to link PAN with Aadhaar

To link your PAN with Aadhaar, you need to visit the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. After logging in, select the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option in the profile section and enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers. Then, you have to pay the prescribed fee through e-Pay Tax. After the payment is complete, the linking process is completed.

How to check Aadhaar-PAN link status

If you want to know whether your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar, you need to go to the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ option on the e-filing portal and enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers. Upon submission, the linking status will be displayed on the screen.

What to do if the information doesn’t match

Sometimes, linking fails due to discrepancies in name, date of birth, or other details between Aadhaar and PAN. In such cases, you should first correct your Aadhaar details by visiting the UIDAI website. Similarly, PAN-related information can be updated through the Protean or UTIITSL websites. If necessary, biometric verification can also be done at an authorized PAN service center.

Complete the process before the deadline

The Income Tax Department has appealed to all taxpayers not to wait until the last minute. Linking your PAN and Aadhaar on time will help you avoid problems such as PAN deactivation, penalties, and disruption of essential services.
