New Delhi: The central government, along with state governments, is running several special schemes aimed at promoting the economic progress of farmers, which are expected to yield long-term benefits. The government’s objective is to increase farmers’ income. In Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest state, preparations are complete for launching a new scheme similar to the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

A door-to-door survey has already been conducted for this purpose. The survey is collecting account numbers, IFSC codes, and mobile numbers. Farmers who do not have bank accounts are being encouraged to open them. Just as instalmentsare paid every four months under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, a similar system is being prepared to provide financial assistance to power loom weavers.

Weavers to become economically empowered

A large population of weavers resides in Varanasi, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ghazipur in Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh. Seeing their plight, a new scheme is being prepared to strengthen them economically. On the lines of the PM Kisan Nidhi, registered power loom weavers will receive a fixed amount every quarter.

This money will be transferred to the weavers’ accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Teams from the Handloom Department are currently conducting a door-to-door survey to collect information about the weavers. The IFSC codes and mobile numbers are being collected to ensure that there are no difficulties in transferring the funds to their accounts.

The government intends for all registered weavers to benefit from this scheme. This will enable them to expand their businesses more effectively. Besides economic advancement, the scheme will also provide a boost to their businesses.

Where are the most powerful connections?

The Azamgarh division in Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of power loom connections. Weavers use these connections to operate power loom machines for weaving sarees and other fabrics. Mau district has the highest number of power loom connections, with over 32,000. Azamgarh district has six thousand, while Ghazipur has 1,000 registered power loom connections. This information is provided by the Handloom Department.
