Indian Railways Update – Travelling by train has now become more expensive, and passengers will have to pay more. Indian Railways has decided to increase fares, and the new rates will be effective from today. For journeys exceeding 215 km, there will be an increase of 1 paisa per kilometre in ordinary class and 2 paise per kilometre in non-AC class of Mail/Express trains and all AC classes of all trains.
This information has been released through a notification issued by Indian Railways. If you are planning to travel by train, you can read the railway notification beforehand to avoid any inconvenience.
Railway Issues Notification
The Ministry of Railways issued a notification in this regard on Thursday. The increased fares will be effective from today. You will have to pay more when booking tickets. This will not affect tickets booked before December 26th. The ministry had announced the fare hike on December 21st. This is the second time this year that a decision has been taken to increase rail fares. Fares were also increased in July.
No Change in Fares for These Tickets
According to a statement from the Ministry of Railways, under the revised fare structure, there is no change in fares for suburban services and season tickets. This includes both suburban and non-suburban routes. Fares for ordinary non-AC (non-suburban) services have been fixed according to the grade in Second Class Ordinary, Sleeper Class Ordinary, and First Class Ordinary.
According to the ministry, there has been a uniform increase of one paisa per kilometre in the fares of Sleeper Class Ordinary and First Class Ordinary for non-suburban journeys. Meanwhile, in Mail/Express trains, fares in non-AC and AC categories have been increased by two paise per kilometre.
This includes Sleeper AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, and AC First Class. This means that the fare will increase by Rs. 10 for every 500 kilometres. Following the increase, the fare for a 500-kilometre journey will increase by 10 rupees.
