Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 has started on a strong note. Many records were made on the first day, and centuries by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gave the tournament an even more exciting start. On Wednesday, Karnataka registered the second highest run chase in List A cricket history and the first highest run chase in Vijay Hazare Trophy history against Jharkhand.

A record run chase for Karnataka

The record for the highest run chase in List A is held by South Africa, who achieved the target of 435 runs against Australia in 2006. In this match, Jharkhand, batting first, scored 412 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs, in which Ishan Kishan played an explosive innings of 125 runs. In reply, Karnataka scored 413 runs in just 48 overs to register a record victory. Devdutt Padikkal played a stormy innings of 137 runs. He hit 10 fours and 7 sixes in his innings.

Karnataka won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Jharkhand had a poor start, losing Utkarsh Singh and Shubham Sharma early. Virat Singh then formed a strong partnership with Shikhar Mohan to take the team past 100. Shikhar Mohan was dismissed for 44, while Virat Singh scored 88 runs in 68 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes.Kumar then scored 63 runs in 47 balls.

Coming in to bat at number six, Ishan Kishan created havoc, scoring a century in just 33 balls. He became the second-fastest batsman to score a century in List A cricket history. Kishan scored 125 runs in 39 balls, including 7 fours and 14 sixes. Thanks to this innings, Jharkhand scored 412 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs.Chasing the target of 413 runs, Karnataka got off to a great start.

Captain Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal made a century partnership for the first wicket. Mayank Agarwal was out after scoring 54 runs, he hit 10 fours in his innings. Devdutt Padikkal played a brilliant innings of 147 runs in 118 balls. After this, Karun Nair and Smran Ravichandran played useful innings. Thanks to Abhinav Manohar’s half-century and Dhruv Prabhakar’s 40 runs, Karnataka achieved the target by losing 5 wickets in the 48th over.
