New Delhi: The Bihar Education Department has released a holiday calendar for children. This calendar covers the holidays for the year 2026. It includes all schools, including primary, middle, secondary, higher secondary project schools, Sanskrit, Urdu, and madrasa schools. According to the list released by the Bihar Education Department, schools will have 75 days of holiday in 2026.

10 Sundays will also be included. Sanjay RO, Director of Secondary Education, shared this information in a notification. The holidays will begin at the beginning of 2026. January marks the holidays for festivals like Makar Sankranti, Basant Panchami, and Republic Day. You can learn important information about these holidays below.

Holidays will begin in the first month only.

According to the Bihar Education Department’s calendar, schools will be heavily holidayed starting in January. Schools will be closed on January 14th for Makar Sankranti. Basant Panchami will be celebrated on January 23rd. Schools are also closed on Republic Day, January 26th. Children are called to hoist the flag on this day.

February 1st will be a holiday to commemorate Ravidas Jayanti. February 15th will be a holiday to commemorate Mahashivratri. Schools will be closed from March 3rd to 4th. There will also be holidays for several festivals in March and April.

When will the most holidays occur?

In 2026, most holidays will be in June. There will be a twenty-day summer vacation from June 1st to June 20th, including two Sundays. The summer vacation will last for approximately three weeks. At the end of this year, there will be a seven-day winter vacation from December 25th to 31st.

Long holidays for Diwali and Durga Puja too

According to the calendar, Bihar will have a large number of holidays for Durga Puja and Diwali. The Durga Puja vacation will last for five days, from October 17th to 21st. Diwali, Chitragupta Puja, and Chhath will add up to a total of 10 days, from November 7th to 17th.

The Bihar Education Department clarified that school programs will be held on Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti. Schools will remain closed after the programs are completed. The holiday dates for Muslim festivals are expected to be slightly altered due to the moon sighting. This will be decided at that time.
