Aadhaar Card : The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the authority that issues Aadhaar cards, is preparing to make major changes to Aadhaar. These changes could be implemented as early as December. Under this plan, UIDAI will introduce a new design for Aadhaar, which may include only your photo and QR code, rather than all your information.
This clearly means that Aadhaar will no longer contain name, address, date of birth, or biometric information. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar stated in an online conference that new regulations are underway to prevent misuse of Aadhaar copies. Once this rule is in place, viewing or providing photocopies of Aadhaar cards to individuals, organizations, or companies will prevent misuse of Aadhaar details.
Even if you use your Aadhaar card to book a hotel or purchase a SIM card, this rule will curb misuse. UIDAI plans to implement this rule by December 2025. To achieve this, UIDAI will soon launch a new Aadhaar mobile app. This app will allow Aadhaar holders to share their digital identity without photocopies, verify all information, and ensure digital security without paper.
What are the features of the new app?
You can add details for up to five family members.
You can securely share Aadhaar card details digitally without any hassle.
There will be a one-click biometric lock and unlock system for data security.
What can change in the Aadhaar card?
If a new Aadhaar card is released, many things will change. This card can only contain a photo and a QR code, along with a printed name. The QR code can only be scanned using a custom app or UIDAI’s authenticator tool. The method of verifying Aadhaar using a photo will be gradually phased out. Currently, the Aadhaar card contains the name, Aadhaar number, photo, and QR code, but in the future, the number may also be removed.
Why is the change needed?
This change to the Aadhaar card is considered crucial, as it will significantly reduce misuse. This change is necessary because repeated copying of the Aadhaar card increases the risk of misuse of the data. Therefore, these changes are being made to the card. QR code-based verification makes it appear more secure. Furthermore, the reduced information on the card will also make it more secure.
