Bima Bharosa: Customers no longer have to run around complaining about their insurance policies. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) has introduced an online platform called Bima Bharosa to tackle this problem. This is an Integrated Grievance Management System (IGMS) where policyholders can file their insurance-related complaints. You can also check the status of your complaint and escalate it if necessary.

What is the Insurance Bharosa Portal?

This portal links policyholders, insurance companies, and the regulatory authority, IRDAI. After a complaint is submitted, it gets sent to the appropriate insurance company for action. IRDAI keeps an eye on the timely and proper resolution of the complaint. The website also provides services like filing complaints, tracking their status, an FAQ section, and a helpline center.

Why is this portal important?

Customers no longer have to write letters or visit branch offices to deal with claim rejections, delays, policy servicing, mis-selling, or any other insurance issues. Every complaint submitted through this portal is visible to both the insurance company and IRDAI, ensuring transparency. Complaint records are also automatically updated in the insurance company’s system.

How to use Bima Bharosa?

  • Go to the website https://bimabharosa.irdai.gov.in/.
  • Choose your language: Hindi or English.
  • Click on Register Complaint and set up a new profile.
  • Provide your name, mobile number, and email address. Verify with an OTP and save your login details.
  • Complete the complaint form with information like the name of the insurance company, policy or claim number if applicable, type of policy, category of complaint, etc.
  • Upload the necessary documents such as email, policy copy, medical report, claim rejection letter, etc., and submit the form.

Once a complaint is lodged, it is forwarded to the official complaints team of the insurance company, and the IRDAI keeps an eye on it as well. You can check the status in real time using your token number. If the insurance company fails to address the issue within the designated timeframe, you have the option to escalate the complaint to the Insurance Ombudsman via the portal.

IRDAI advises against scanning QR codes, clicking on dubious links, or trying to resolve complaints by making any payments. Bima Bharosa does not impose any fees for complaints and will never request OTPs, bank logins, or money.
