During the festive season or during any special occasion, Indian Railways often used to run special trains because of high demand than the usual days. After festivals or occasions, when people slowly back to their normal lives, rail also back to its normal routine. With the festival season drawing to a close, the heavy rush of passengers at railway stations is now beginning to subside. Therefore, Indian Railways has announced that all trains at New Delhi Railway Station will operate from their original platforms as usual from October 31st.
Regarding this decision, railway officials explained that during Diwali, Chhath Puja, and other festivals, some trains were temporarily operated from new or alternate platforms to manage crowds. However, with normalcy returning, the old system is being reinstated. Passengers will now board trains on their familiar platforms, reducing confusion and making travel easier.
Why were the rules changed earlier?
The Railways initially took this decision to control the festival crowds. This decision was made to prevent stampedes on platforms and foot overbridges in Delhi. Consequently, Indian Railways reassigned the platforms of 17 trains at New Delhi Railway Station. However, starting October 31st, they will operate from the original platforms as before. Parcel service, which had previously been suspended, has also resumed.
