PM Ujjwala Yojana: The Government of India is continuously implementing schemes that directly benefit the poor and needy citizens of the country. One of these schemes is the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which aims to provide clean fuel to rural and low-income women. This scheme was launched in 2016, and since then, LPG connections have reached millions of families.
The government’s objective with this scheme is to provide LPG gas connections to every household, helping women avoid the diseases caused by cooking on wood, coal, or cow dung stoves.
Benefits of the Scheme
Under this government scheme, eligible families are provided with a completely free LPG gas connection. The first gas cylinder and stove are also provided free of charge. In some circumstances, beneficiaries are also provided financial assistance for cylinder refills. This encourages rural and poor communities to adopt cooking gas.
Eligible Beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana
Only families living below the poverty line or registered in the Socio-Economic Census (SECC 2011) can avail the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Additionally, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Extremely Backward Classes, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana beneficiaries, and Antyodaya card holders are also eligible for this scheme.
Application Process and Required Documents
The application process under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is very simple. Interested beneficiaries can apply both online and offline.
Online applications require filling out the application form by visiting the official LPG portal or the website of the respective gas company. Offline applications require visiting the nearest gas agency and submitting the form along with the required documents.
Documents such as an Aadhaar card, a ration card, a bank passbook, and a passport-size photo are mandatory for this scheme. After verification of all documents by the agency, a free gas connection is issued upon confirmation of eligibility.
