Chhath Puja 2025: Today is the third day of Chhath Puja, and offerings will be made to the setting sun. Women break their Nirjala fast only after offering water to the rising Sun in the morning. Special attention is paid to purity during this fast.

According to belief, the Chhath Puja fast is observed to protect children and ensure their long life. Furthermore, with the blessings of Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya, wealth and prosperity are attained. Women should wear a new red sari on this day. Sindoor and a sari should also be offered to Chhathi Maiya. So, let’s learn the rules for providing arghya to the Sun on this day.

Rules for Offering Arghya to the Setting and Rising Sun

Arghya is offered to Lord Surya on Chhath Puja. For this, you must also mix red sandalwood, vermilion, and a red flower in the water. After this, you must circumambulate the Sun God three times.

You must also keep your hands slightly forward while offering water. Do not offer it from too close. Otherwise, the water will fall on your feet.

You should offer arghya within 30 minutes to 1 hour of sunset.

It is also considered good to offer arghya at sunrise, between 5:30 and 8:00 in the morning.

Jaggery, milk, and red flowers should be added to the water offered to the Sun God. Doing so brings financial prosperity.

After this, offer water to the Sun God in a single stream and then gaze at him through this stream. Chant Om Suryaya Namah while offering the arghya.

When offering arghya to the Sun God in the evening, take a bowl with you. Seasonal fruits, sugarcane, thekua, and jaggery kheer should also be placed in the bowl to offer to the Sun God. The Chhath Puja fast is completed after providing arghya to the Sun God upon waking up in the morning.

Shashthi Tithi is considered very special in the great festival of Chhath Puja. During this time, while offering Argh, one should keep in mind that the water should be filled to the knees and provided while standing in the water at sunset.
