Aadhaar Card Update 2025: There’s important news for the more than 1.43 billion Aadhaar card holders across the country. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the government body that generates Aadhaar, is preparing to make some significant changes next month. Under these new rules, which will come into effect in November 2025, Aadhaar card holders will be able to update their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number online in the database without any supporting documents.

What is going to change for Aadhaar card holders from November 2025?

By November 2025, Aadhaar Card holders will be able to update important details like their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number in the database online from the comfort of their homes. This means that card holders will no longer have to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar Center for essential updates. It is being reported that visits to the Aadhaar Center will only be required for biometric updates like fingerprints or iris.

Under the new rule, UIDAI will automatically verify your details by linking them with other government databases like PAN, passport, driving license, ration card, MNREGA, birth certificate and school records, which means users will not need to manually upload supporting documents for updation after a week.

UIDAI has made several other changes to its regulations. These new Aadhaar rules have had a profound impact on users’ banking and other financial activities.

In these changes, the fee for updating Aadhaar details (like name, address etc.) by visiting enrolment centres has been revised, while online address update was free till mid-2025.

The government has also made Aadhaar-PAN linking mandatory. All existing PAN holders must link their Aadhaar by December 31, 2025, or their PAN will become inactive from January 1, 2026.

Additionally, KYC (Know Your Customer) norms have been simplified. Banks and financial institutions can now complete customer verification through Aadhaar OTP, video KYC, or in-person verification.

The fee for biometric update (fingerprint, iris or photo update) has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 125.

According to the UIDAI, mandatory biometric updates strengthen your child’s Aadhaar. Mandatory biometric updates are now free for all children aged 5 to 17 for one year, starting October 1, 2025. The government body that generates Aadhaar has urged people to update their children’s Aadhaar biometrics as soon as possible.

Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for children aged 5 to 17 years has been made free for one year from October 1, 2025, which will benefit about 6 crore children across the country.

UIDAI stated that this biometric update service is now available free of charge to all children between the ages of 5 and 17 until September 30, 2026. Parents can update their children’s Aadhaar as soon as possible.

Mandatory biometric updates for children aged 5-7 and 15-17 are free, as these are one-time updates. To encourage timely updates, biometric updates for children aged 7-15 are free until September 30, 2026.

Explaining the benefits of mandatory biometric updates, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has urged all parents and guardians to update their children’s Aadhaar on time. Mandatory biometric updates between the ages of 5 and 15 help protect children’s identities and also enable them to access benefits from education, scholarships, and other government schemes.
