Luxury SUV lovers in India have some exciting updates in store for them in the coming years. Entry-level SUVs from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which appeal to first-time buyers in the luxury segment, are set to be introduced in their next-generation avatars. Both the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA models will be completely redesigned by 2027, making these new SUVs even more attractive options for first time luxury buyers.
BMW X1
The next generation of the BMW X1 will be based on the Neue Klasse architecture, giving it a modern look similar to BMW’s recently launched iX3. Externally, it will appear to be a smaller version of the iX3, and the interiors will also be quite modern and tech laden like the iX3.
Spotted prototypes have revealed that it will have pop-out door handles, a repositioned number plate slot, and a completely redesigned front end, which includes a new Kidney grille feature.

Furthermore, the BMW X1 will be available with petrol and diesel engine options along with an electric powertrain. Current prototypes have been spotted during tire testing, which makes it clear that BMW is also upgrading it in terms of dynamic driving and handling.
Mercedes GLA
Talking about the Mercedes GLA, spotted testing in Stuttgart, its next-gen silhouette doesn’t appear to have changed much, but subtle yet modern changes have been made to the front and rear design. It will get new wheels, revised headlights and taillights, giving it a contemporary look.
The Mercedes GLA will also come with multiple powertrain options, including electric, petrol, hybrid and at least one diesel engine. This strategy is an opportunity for Mercedes to attract new customers and increase brand loyalty.

Luxury Segment
The main objective of the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA is to attract first-time luxury buyers to the brand. Entry-level models provide customers with a premium experience, and in the long run, they may migrate to the brand’s higher-end models like the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S-Class.
These new SUVs will be available in India by 2028 and pricing will be competitive through local assembly. This will provide buyers with a world-class luxury experience along with affordability in India.
