You will know that Mahindra Thar has always been a legend in the Indian SUV market. Its strong road presence, unbeatable off-road capability and rugged design made it a favorite of youth and SUV lovers. When its new avatar was launched in 2020, people took it in hand.
Now 5 years later Mahindra has given Thar the first major update, being called MY2025 iteration. The question is how much the new Thar has changed compared to the old model and does this update make it even more practical? Let’s know in detail.

Exterior
First of all, grille, now it comes with body-coloured finish, giving the SUV a cleaner and more modern look. In addition, two new paint options — Tango Red and Battleship Gray have also been introduced, taken from Thar Roxx. These shades give Thar more appealing and fresh vibe.

Now rear parking camera is being found in the SUV, which is integrated in neatly tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Also, long-demand features like rear wiper and washer are also given in it now.
Interior
You may know that Thar’s cabin has always been functional, but now the comfort and practicality have been further improved. Dashboard still comes with familiar all-black theme, but now it gives more user-friendly feel.
Its biggest change is in power window switches. Previously they used to be awkwardly on the centre console, but now they have been shifted to the door pads. Also sliding center armrest is given, which also gets storage space below. It has already become easier to climb and descend from the new A-pillar-mounted grab handles into the cabin.

Engine
Mahindra has not made any changes to the engine. The same trusted and proven engine options are found in Under the hood, Thar. 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. These engines have been introduced with manual and automatic transmission, as well as an option of RWD and 4X4 configurations.
