Mumbai to Ahmedabad Bullet Train:- Indians are eagerly awaiting the launch of the bullet train. Construction work on this long-cherished dream is progressing rapidly. On Saturday, the 4.88-kilometer-long tunnel of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project achieved a breakthrough. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav himself inaugurated the tunnel between Shilphata and Ghansoli. According to media reports, this historic project is fully prepared for its first commercial journey in December 2027.
Vaishnav stated that this project will connect Mumbai, Anand, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Vapi through an economic corridor. He explained that the journey from Ahmedabad to Mumbai currently takes nine hours, but with this project, the journey will be completed in approximately two hours and seven minutes.
The first bullet train is scheduled to run in 2027.
The first operational section of the 508-kilometre Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will begin operations between Surat and Bilimora. The Thane stretch is expected to be completed by 2028, and the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai by 2029. Once fully operational, the train will run every half hour during peak hours and every 10 minutes thereafter.
A speed of 320 kilometres per hour
This bullet train is being designed to run at a speed of 320 kilometres per hour, reducing the travel time from Mumbai to Ahmedabad from the current 6-7 hours to just 2 hours. A 5-kilometre tunnel between Ghansoli and Shilphata has been completed.
What could be the fare?
This bullet train project brings the renowned Japanese Shinkansen technology to India, which is globally known for its safety, comfort, and punctuality. Under this project, 321 km of viaduct construction, 17 river bridges, and 9 steel bridges have been completed. Bullet train fares have not yet been officially announced, but reports suggest the fare for the entire journey between Mumbai and Ahmedabad could be between ₹3,000 and ₹5,000.
The first phase is expected to reach Surat-Bilimora in 2027, Thane in 2028, and Bandra Kurla Complex in 2029. 321 km of viaducts of the 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor have been completed.
