OnePlus Open 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Foldables saw a sudden jump in 2025 after remaining for a long time in the experimental zone, almost branded as too expensive. Now, they are making a rightful claim to establish themselves in the category of premium offerings. In this race, almost every other brand is a mute spectator with Samsung in some front, while OnePlus decided to spice it up. Tech enthusiasts will watch this year’s battle on an ultra-premium clash between OnePlus Open 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 with bated breath.

Design and Build Quality

From time immemorial, there was a notion that the Z Fold houses the most-premium and most-rugged devices. With a lighter and thinner design, Samsung has put up its effort to make the foldable phone even more comfortable to use in the Z Fold 7. Improved design-wise, the OnePlus Open 2 is also revamped from the original Open. By stiffening the hinge and reducing the visibility of creases, they have improved it over the last version. Primarily metal and glass make up both, but OnePlus Open 2 is slightly sleeker and perhaps appears minimalistic.

Display Quality

The display is the first and foremost feature of a foldable. As for the Z Fold 7 display, Samsung proclaimed this to be a 7.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display that runs at 120Hz with HDR10+ support. The outer display has become increasingly wider and gets used a lot with Samsung foldables. The OnePlus Open 2 also boasts an AMOLED display of 7.6 inches in size with a promise of very natural colors. Interestingly, OnePlus ramped up the brightness of this display, thereby taking the ease of use under direct sunlight a notch higher.

Performance and Software

For a flagship phone of 2025, a top-notch chipset should be present. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor powers both devices and comes with RAM ranging from 12GB to 16GB, which means super smooth performance. However, most users will most likely prefer the clean and uncluttered interface of the OnePlus Open 2’s OxygenOS comparison to Samsung Z Fold 7’s One UI, around which are some productivity-oriented multitasking functionalities such as being able to run up to three applications at the same time and drag-and-drop support.

Camera Performance

When the camera quality comes to mind, Samsung always resurfaces, and so does the assumption that the Z Fold 7 will carry the same torch. The camera specs for this phone include a 200MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto lens-having all of a brilliant low-light capability and video stabilization as well. The OnePlus Open 2, meanwhile, comes with a 50MP triple-camera array, the backing of Hasselblad tuning, and a performance that tops in terms of color accuracy along with its portrait shots; however, Samsung has them slightly better in terms of zoom and video quality.

Battery and Charging

Battery life is yet another considerable function with respect to any foldable. OnePlus Open 2 contains a giant 5200mAh battery with 100W fast charging. Thus, with this large battery along with extremely fast charging, probably, it should last at least a day with very heavy use. On the other side, the Samsung Z Fold 7 comes with a 4800mAh battery paired with 45W fast charging, which gave it an okay battery life, but charging is where OnePlus holds an advantage.

Price and Value-for-Money

It also indicates a starting price of approximately 1.60 lakh rupees for a Samsung Z Fold 7, while OnePlus Open 2 was introduced at approximately 1.35 lakh rupees. Most of the characteristics are similar to Samsung, but OnePlus has launched these features at lesser prices.

The OnePlus Open 2 is the more satisfying option if you seek longer battery life, faster charging, and flagship features at a somewhat cheaper price. However, those who have camera quality, multitasking, and perhaps a little brand value at the top of their list regarding an ultra-premium foldable phone can be sure that Z Fold 7 is the best buy. Both are brilliant in their own right, and we would indeed say that the foldable smartphone race just got a lot more exciting in 2025.
