For those who frequently travel from one state to another, toll tax is a big expense. To reduce this problem, the Government of India has introduced the FASTag Annual Pass facility from 15 August 2025. This pass is valid for up to a year and makes the process of paying tolls very easy. But it is very important to know that this pass does not work on all highways and expressways in the country. Let us know the complete list of highways and expressways in this article where this pass is not valid.
What is the FASTag Annual Pass

The FASTag Annual Pass is valid for one year which costs ₹3,000. This pass is valid for 200 trips or 1 year, whichever is completed first. This facility is especially beneficial for those who travel frequently on a particular route. This pass is linked to your existing FASTag account, so there is no interruption at the toll plaza.
On which highways and expressways will the pass not work
It is most important to know that the FASTag Annual Pass is valid only on highways and expressways under the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). This means that this pass will not work on highways built by state governments. Here is a list of major expressways and highways where this pass is not valid:
- Yamuna Expressway
- Purvanchal Expressway
- Bundelkhand Expressway
- Agra-Lucknow Expressway
- Samriddhi Mahamarg (Maharashtra)
- Mumbai-Pune Expressway
- Atal Setu (Goa)
All these highways and expressways are operated by state governments, so they do not come under the purview of NHAI.

How will the toll be deducted where the pass does not work
This question may come to your mind: how will toll be paid at places where the annual pass will not work? The answer to this is simple. Your Annual Pass is linked to your existing FASTag account. When you pass through a toll plaza where the pass is not valid, the toll amount will be deducted directly from the balance in your FASTag account.
So, if you are travelling on a route that has both National Highways and State Highways, ensure that you have sufficient balance in your FASTag account. Relying solely on the Annual Pass may land you in trouble.
