iPhone 17 Leaks : Ads for Apple’s latest versions of iPhones 17 are already flowing, and now it’s time for a big leak to make it even better. Rumor has it that Apple will be dropping the normal SIM tray in some models of the iPhone 17 line so that they will only use eSIM, similar to what had happened to some earlier models made available in the USA. iPhone 17 Air-The First eSIM Only iPhone
What everyone would be wishing for from the lineup, iPhone 17 Air (or Thin or Slim), is thought to be designed to an extent where it becomes too thin to accommodate a physical SIM tray. Several leaks reported that the design of the body is that slim that it cannot have a physical SIM tray. Obviously, this bears Apple’s plans to make this the first eSIM-only iPhone.
Industry insiders said the rollout would most likely be from Europe. Actually, the company had been asking these European resellers to prepare their authorized resellers to finish their eSIM training before the early part of September 2025.
The iPhone 17 Pro And Pro Max May Retain SIM Tray
Although many are given to the idea that iPhone 17 Air is the only model that will be eSIM compliant, most likely to be SIM tray-less in most markets will disappoint iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models. The leading telecom operators in India, including Jio, Airtel and Vi, support the eSIM model, but its usefulness doesn’t compare much with that of physical SIM cards. Therefore, experts assumed that iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max would possibly have the SIM tray for the Indian market, with continuance for the iPhone 17 Air eSIM-only in selective countries.
That means the Indian consumers are most probably safe for the time being, but eventually, Apple’s final move may include winding down the physical SIMs within a few years in India also.
Should You Worry About eSIM?
Not much. Based on most practical uses of consumers, eSIM is future-ready technology and secure. Now, these consumers who change their SIMs most of the time or travel for a longer period might have to get used to a little digital processing for carrier activation instead.
Most telecom providers already have instant eSIM activation with QR codes, which immediately makes it easy once it works like normal SIM.
