How to get a birth certificate from the CRS portal

Now the applicant does not need to visit different websites of their state or municipal corporation. From 2025, all applications will be made directly on the CRS portal.
- For this, the applicant will first have to go to crsorgi.gov.in and sign up in the General Public section.
- After creating the account, log in and click on “Apply for Birth Certificate”.
- After this, a form will open in which information like the child’s name (if named), date and time of birth, place of birth, name of parents, address, and contact information will have to be filled.
- Along with this, some important documents like the hospital birth report or discharge summary, parents’ Aadhaar card or other identity card, and residence certificate will have to be uploaded.
- After submitting the form, a reference number will be received, with the help of which the applicant will be able to track the status of the application.
- If everything is correct, the birth certificate will be issued within 28 days, which can be downloaded from the portal.

What things are important to keep in mind

The government has set a rule that the application for a birth certificate has to be made within 21 days of the child’s birth. If the application is not made on time, then a fine may have to be paid. And if the delay is longer, then the affidavit and other legal processes will have to be gone through.
Since the new certificate comes with a digital signature, it will be valid in all government and private works.
