Driving License-Aadhaar Linking: Big news for Driving License holders. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has taken an important step and made it mandatory for all driving license holders and vehicle owners to link their mobile number with Aadhaar.
Recently, you might have received a message from the Ministry of Transport (MoRTH), which says, ‘All License Holders are requested to add/update and confirm the mobile numbers for their Driving License through Aadhaar authentication process. Please visit the portal parivahan.gov.in and complete the process online. Please ignore, if already done.’
This message has been sent to license holders and vehicle owners across the country so that they can verify their mobile number through Aadhaar and avail transport services without any interruption. This will not only make the services easier but will also curb fraud. By linking the mobile number to Aadhaar, information about services like e-challan, vehicle transfer, insurance renewal will reach your phone directly.

How to update mobile number?
For this, you have to go to the parivahan.gov.in portal. There you will get the option of Update Mobile Number via Aadhaar. You will have to fill in the details of your vehicle or driving license, such as registration number, date of birth, chassis number etc. After this, you can update your mobile number by doing OTP verification from Aadhaar.
How to link with Driving License(DL)?
- Scan the Sarathi QR Code given on the portal or visit the relevant page
- Enter driving license number, date of birth, state name and captcha code
- Verify with Aadhaar OTP
- Click on submit and complete the process
If you have already completed this process, then you do not need to do anything. But if you have not done it, then complete it as soon as possible, so that there is no problem in future. If the mobile number is not updated, then important notices or information will not reach you. This may cause delay in challan, registration renewal or other services. Therefore, the government has appealed to all vehicle owners and license holders to complete this process as soon as possible.
