‘Get crop insurance and get security cover.’ This line of the central government is not just a slogan, it is the truth. If you have not insured your crop yet, do not delay. Recently, the central government sent ₹3900 crore to the accounts of 35 lakh farmers. This money was given to those farmers whose Rabi crop was damaged. Right now, applications for Kharif crop insurance are open. But if you miss this chance, you will have nothing left except regret if your crop gets damaged.
The last date to insure Kharif crop under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has been extended. If you have a Kisan Credit Card or have taken an agriculture loan, you can get your crop insured till 30th August. The government has kept applications open so that more farmers can get security. If you are also wondering which crops are covered under this scheme, then we will tell you.
You Can Get Insurance for These Kharif Crops
Kharif (summer) crops include food grains and oilseeds. Before 30th August, you can get insurance for millet, sorghum, maize, moong, moth, guar, chana, urad, tur, soybean, sesame, paddy, cotton and peanut. Once the insurance is done, if the crop gets damaged between sowing and harvesting, you can claim compensation from the insurance company.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), farmers can claim for crop damage caused by natural disasters like flood, drought, unseasonal rain, cyclone, pests or diseases.
Premium is Very Low
The good part is that farmers do not need to spend much money. For Kharif crops, the farmer has to pay only 2% premium. The rest is paid by the government. For example, if the premium of millet crop is ₹10,000, the farmer will pay only ₹200. The remaining ₹9,800 will be paid by the government.
