This year, the last date for ITR filing has been fixed as 15 September 2025. However, as the date is approaching, taxpayers and chartered accountants across the country are facing difficulties in filing returns on time. Many experts say that at present, problems like technical errors, login failures, and timeouts are constantly coming up on the portal.
GCCI demands an extension of the deadline

The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has written a letter to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) recommending the extension of the last date for ITR filing to October 31. The organization says that this year, taxpayers have very little time to file returns. While ITR utility forms are usually released in April, this time they were available in July and August. ITR-5 utility was released on 8 August, leaving taxpayers and professionals with limited time for preparation.
Problems of tax professionals
Chartered accountants and tax practitioners say that uploading returns has become a big challenge due to the glitches in the portal. Many times, there is an error in the uploaded return, or the data is not updated. Due to errors in Form 26AS, AIS, and TIS and delayed data, taxpayers are facing difficulty in filing correct returns.
The deadline was also extended earlier

It is worth noting that in May this year, the government extended the deadline for ITR filing from 31 July to 15 September. At that time, CBDT had admitted that major changes had been made in the ITR form, and the data related to tax credit, i.e., TDS, was available only in June. This was the reason why the government gave additional time. Given the current circumstances, once again, the pressure has increased on the government to extend the deadline.
