If you too have a dream of owning a bike that takes you out of the hustle and bustle of the city and into the jungle, then the name of KTM must be flashing in your mind. Design

The first look at these two bikes will tell you that they are built for different purposes. The KTM 390 Adventure looks like a strong, powerful and reliable companion. With its tall stance, large windscreen, vertical LED headlight and a large 14.5-litre fuel tank, it looks like a full-fledged tourer. This bike makes you feel safe and comfortable even on long roads and in the worst of weather conditions.

On the other hand, the KTM 390 Enduro R looks very simple and light, like an athlete dressed in his tracksuit. It has hardly any bodywork, a compact LED headlight and a fuel tank of just 9 litres. All this to keep the bike as light and agile as possible. Surprisingly, the difference in weight is just 5kg.

But when you add 5.5 litres more fuel (about 4kg weight) to the 390 Adventure, the actual weight difference is even less. Talking about colours, the Adventure is available in White and Orange, while the Enduro R comes only in pure KTM Orange.

Features

The 390 Adventure, however, is clearly the best of the lot. It gets a six-axis IMU (inertial measurement unit) that gives it smart features like lean-angle sensitive traction control and ABS. Cruise control is also a feature for long safaris. The 5-inch TFT display is also big and informative.

The Enduro R is a little basic on the tech front. It doesn’t get an IMU, so those advanced electronics are missing. Cruise control? That’s missing. The display is 4.2-inches and surprisingly, there’s no fuel gauge, just a low fuel indicator. It does get a dedicated ABS off button for off-road riding, though. The question is, do you really need all these features or do you just want a purer riding experience.

Engine

Let us tell you that the engine of both the bikes is exactly the same. KTM’s famous 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled ‘LC4c’ engine. This small but powerful engine gives you 43.5 PS of power and 37 Nm of torque. As we mentioned earlier, the Enduro R weighs slightly less. Also, its rear sprocket has two extra teeth. This means that the acceleration in the Enduro R will be a little more powerful. It is better for climbing uphill or accelerating quickly on off-road. It can feel more ‘punchy’ due to short-ratio gearing.

On the other hand, the 390 Adventure has longer gearing, which makes it more relaxed and fuel-efficient when cruising on the highway. So yes, even though the power and torque figures are the same, the way they are delivered to the wheels is different, which gives each bike a different personality according to its purpose.

Price
