Are you also one of those people who want classic looks along with great performance? If yes, then Triumph Thruxton 400 can be a perfect pick for you. The bike not only attracts everyone’s attention with its neo-retro design, but its engine is also very energetic. Let’s know in detail how special this bike is.

Design and Features

In terms of styling, the Thruxton 400 is the most unique looking bike in Triumph’s 400cc family. Its design is inspired by the Thruxton 1200, which has now been discontinued. In this bike, you get a slim fuel tank, raked windscreen, bar-end mirrors and a removable rear cowl.

In terms of quality, this bike is as good as other Triumph 400cc models. Panel gaps are tight, paint finish is excellent, and the switchgear feels sturdy. However, some test units may feel vibrations from the fairing after 6,000 RPM.

The instrument cluster is similar to the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, with an analog speedometer and a digital tachometer. However, being a cafe racer style bike, Triumph should have given it a digital speedometer.

Riding and Comfort

If you like a sporty riding position, the Thruxton 400 will give you full support. Its clip-on handlebars are low, the footpegs are slightly rearward, and the seat leans you slightly forward. This position can be a little uncomfortable for long rides in the city, but it is absolutely fine for short rides.

The seat height is just 795mm, making it the lowest-seating 400cc bike from Triumph. This feature is very beneficial for smaller riders. However, the single-piece seat is a bit firm, due to which you may need to take breaks on long rides. If you want more comfort, Triumph offers a quilted seat as an accessory, which costs Rs 7,000.

Engine and Performance

The Thruxton 400 is powered by the same 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as the Speed 400, but it has been tuned to be a little more punchy. Its power is 42hp (@9,000 RPM), which is 2hp more than the Speed 400. Torque is the same at 37.5Nm (@7,500 RPM), but it arrives 1,000 RPM later.

Also, the final drive has been made slightly longer, due to which this bike performs even better at the top-end. The little pops and bangs from the exhaust make the riding experience even more fun.

Comfort and Handling

The Thruxton 400 can be considered the sportiest handler in Triumph’s 400cc family, but its suspension setup is a bit soft. There is 10mm more travel on both front and rear, which makes riding on bad roads easier.

In terms of handling, this bike performs well both in the city and on the highway, but you may feel a bit unstable in high-speed curves. Braking is good, and the ABS system also works on time.

Price

The Triumph Thruxton 400 is priced at ₹ 2.74 lakh ex-showroom, which is Rs 50,000 cheaper than the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. Although the GT 650 offers a twin-cylinder engine and big bike feel, if you want classic styling and better mileage at a lower price, the Thruxton 400 is a great option.
