New Delhi: US President Donald Trump is currently opening a front against India through tariffs. He had earlier announced a 25 per cent tariff, but has doubled it. The tariff rate on Indian products in the US has now increased to 50 per cent. This decision of Donald Trump is also being seen as a setback in the ongoing business relations between the US and India.
The US’s reasoning behind this is India’s purchase of oil from Russia. The US President wants India to cancel its oil agreement with Russia, but India is not ready to take even a step back. This step is likely to have a bad effect on textiles, marine products and exports. Donald Trump has given another big threat. He said that he is also going to impose many secondary sections. If this happens, it can hurt India’s exports.

America’s decision is unfortunate – Foreign Ministry
After Donald Trump’s tariff bomb, the Indian Foreign Ministry has termed his decision unfortunate. The Foreign Ministry issued a formal statement saying it is very unfortunate that the US imposed additional duties on India. He said that India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.
Trump had announced that impose a 25 per cent tariff on India last week. Along with this, he had said that Russia is a big trade friend of India, for which a separate penalty will be imposed. He announced that impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on India on Wednesday. After this order, the total tariff on Indian goods will be 50 per cent, except for some concessional goods.
When will the tariff be implemented?
The initial tariff will come into effect from August 7, 2025. The additional tariff that has been imposed will be implemented after 21 days. Just after this, Donald Trump gave another big warning to India. He had said that he would announce a heavy tariff on India within 24 hours for buying oil from Russia, and that is what happened. Now he is also preparing to impose many types of second sections.
