The last date for registration of Kharif crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is 31 July. If you are also thinking that you will have to spend more on this, then understand the full calculation once.
The monsoon is at its peak. But in some places, heavy rain much above the average has caused damage, while in other places people are still waiting for rain. According to the weather department, the country has received 9% more rain than normal. Rajasthan has received 116% more rain and Jharkhand 70% more rain, which has become a problem for farmers. Flood-like situations have occurred in many states, increasing the risk of crop damage.
How Much Money Will You Pay from Your Pocket?
If you think you will have to spend a lot of money to insure your crops, then you are mistaken. The Crop Insurance Scheme covers many types of risks. It provides compensation for losses at different stages — from sowing to harvesting.
This means that if your crop is damaged due to rain, drought, pest attack, or any other reason, the money from the insurance company can save you from loss.
The best part is that for Kharif crops, you only have to pay 2% of the premium from your pocket. The rest of the amount will be paid by the government. This means you can insure your crop for a very small amount.

- For 3 hectares, the farmer pays only ₹1,764.
- The government pays ₹7,056 to the insurance company.
- You get crop insurance worth ₹82,000 for just ₹1,764.
States Where Farmers Pay Nothing
Some states are fully exempt from paying any premium under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. In Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and all North-Eastern states, farmers don’t pay a single rupee. The government covers the entire cost.
