There are many states in the country where people get free LPG cylinders on special occasions. For example, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh gives free LPG cylinders to Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries during festivals like Holi and Diwali.

But now, the Andhra Pradesh government is planning a new scheme. Under this scheme, beneficiaries will get one free LPG cylinder every three months in a financial year. Let us understand this scheme in simple words.

What is the Government’s Plan?

According to a report by the Times of India, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to use the Direct Beneficiary Transfer (DBT) system to run the free LPG cylinder scheme. The DBT system will first be tested in the NTR and Guntur districts as a pilot project. After checking the results of this test, the government will decide whether to start the scheme in the whole state.

Scheme Announced in November Last Year

The Andhra Pradesh government started the free LPG cylinder scheme in November last year. The promise was to give one free cylinder every three months during a financial year. According to the rules of the scheme, people do not need to pay the cylinder price to the distributor. This scheme is only for BPL cardholders.

How Will the Scheme Work?

Under this scheme, the distributor will give the LPG cylinder to the beneficiary without taking any money. The Andhra Pradesh government has made a deal with oil companies to make sure the supply of LPG cylinders runs smoothly. The government will pay the full amount after the cylinder is booked every three months.

The Ministry of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, which is managing the scheme, says that this is the best way to run the free LPG cylinder scheme because it will be clear and fair for everyone.
