Bank Holiday– Sawan Shivratri, a major festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, will be celebrated this year on Wednesday, 23 July 2025. In many states of North India, this day is of great religious importance, especially because of the Kanwar Yatra. Because of this, people are confused whether the bank will be closed on this day?

Will banks be closed on July 23?

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday list for the year 2025, July 23 has not been declared a national bank holiday, meaning banks will remain open across the country. However, in some states, there may be a holiday on the occasion of Savan Shivratri at the local level but it is not included in the RBI notified holidays.

26 July (Saturday) – Fourth Saturday, all banks are closed across the country

27 July (Sunday) – Weekly holiday

28 July (Monday) – Banks closed in Sikkim due to Drukpa Che-ji festival

 

Online banking services will remain operational

Despite the closure of bank branches, services like net banking, mobile banking and UPI will remain available 24×7. Therefore, customers can easily perform functions like fund transfer, bill payment, balance check through these channels.

How many days will banks remain closed in August?

In August 2025, banks will remain closed for more than 10 days in total, which includes every Sunday (3, 10, 17, 24, 31 August) and second and fourth Saturdays (10 and 23 August). Apart from this, there will be state-wise holidays on festivals like Rakshabandhan (9 August), Independence Day (15 August), Janmashtami (16 August), Ganesh Chaturthi (27–28 August) and Nuakhai (28 August). That is, if you want to do any important work related to the bank, then it would be better if you finish it in the middle of the week.
