Many changes are happening related to the Aadhaar Card. Recently, the government has launched a new app for Aadhaar. Right now, the app is in early access, but people can still download and use it on their phones.
People often make many changes in their Aadhaar Card, like name, address, and date of birth. However, now it will not be easy to change the date of birth again and again. The government has made a new rule to stop frequent changes in the date of birth.
UIDAI, the organization that issues Aadhaar cards, is now planning to take strict steps to stop fraud and misuse of fake Aadhaar numbers. According to a report by ET, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said that repeated changes in date of birth and biometrics will not be allowed anymore. Read below for full details.
New Rule to Change Date of Birth in Aadhaar
Many people change their name, address, or date of birth in the Aadhaar card. But now, changing the date of birth again and again will not be allowed. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said that this step is being taken to stop fraud. If someone wants to change their date of birth in Aadhaar, they must first update it in their original birth certificate. UIDAI will not accept a second birth certificate.
To stop misuse, UIDAI will verify Aadhaar details using data from other government departments. UIDAI is also working on making the Aadhaar form fully online. People will need to upload only those documents which can be verified online by the state.
Why People Misuse Aadhaar Details
Bhuvnesh Kumar said that many people try to change their age to get benefits. For example, some reduce their age to play in cricket teams, while others increase it to apply for government jobs. This is a kind of fraud. Many people use multiple birth certificates to do this.
UIDAI is now directly connected to the databases of 35 states. It is also linking documents like PAN card, CBSE mark sheet, and MGNREGA records to stop such frauds. UIDAI will now check if the documents submitted are real or not by verifying them from the source.
New Technology to Stop Fraud
UIDAI is using new technology to stop fraud. It has created a special AI/ML tool to detect fake fingerprints. This will make sure that the fingerprint is real. UIDAI is also using AI in cameras to detect a person’s age. For children’s Aadhaar, biometrics are not needed. AI will also match photos with the Bureau of Immigration database to stop fake entries.
UIDAI is also planning to limit the number of fingerprint updates. Kumar said that it is okay for older people to update fingerprints as they may change over time. But young people do not need to update fingerprints again and again.
