Tecno Phantom Ultimate: Tecno has released its most ambitious foldable so far, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold. Replacing the 2024 Phantom Ultimate 2 Tri-Fold, this latest device raises foldable design to new heights with an inward tri-fold mechanism and two screens. In contrast to the Huawei Mate XT, which has one foldable screen, Tecno’s phone sports a special cover screen that helps safeguard the flexible display within from impact.

Dual Display Design for Added Protection

The Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold boasts not only one, but two screens. The primary screen opens into a whopping 9.94-inch display, with a nearly tablet-like experience. In the meantime, there is a secondary cover screen for use when the phone is folded up. This dual-display design makes Tecno the first to try such a design on a tri-fold phone. By comparison, the Huawei Mate XT boasts a marginally bigger 10.2-inch display but without the extra protection and convenience of having a cover screen.

Slimmest Tri-Fold So Far, With Tough Build

Tecno says this is the thinnest tri-fold phone ever produced. When folded, the phone is 11.49mm, and only 3.49mm when completely unfolded, thinner than the Huawei Mate XT’s 3.6mm unfolded version. Constructed using 2000 MPa ultra-high-strength steel for the hinge and Titan Fiber back cover, only 0.3mm thick, the phone is a combination of strength and lightness. Tecno seems to be focusing on form and function with this special hardware selection.

Advanced Hinge System Provides Flexible Folding

One feature that stands out is Tecno’s specifically designed dual-hinge system. It features a tiny waterdrop hinge for the initial fold and a bigger hinge to finish the tri-fold layout. This design provides a gapless book-like fold, enabling the right half of the display to fold inside gaplessly. A self-locking design provides additional security when the device is closed, and multi-angle hovering is enabled due to the dual-cam hinge structure.

Camera Setup and Battery Life

Although this is a conceptual device, Tecno hasn’t shied away from including features. Phantom Ultimate G Fold boasts a three-camera rear setup with flagship-level camera performance. Its power source is a 5,000mAh battery, something to be proud of for such a thin foldable. With premium hardware and intelligent design decisions, Tecno is gunning to take on Samsung and Huawei in the world of foldables.

Market Outlook and Concept Limitations

Tecno will unveil the Phantom Ultimate G Fold at MWC 2026, but its commercial release is not yet known. It would price undercut Huawei and Samsung, much like the Phantom V Fold 2 did when it came in at Rs 89,990. Samsung, however, will unveil its tri-fold phone—the Galaxy Z Trifold following the rollout of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at Rs 1,74,999. While the idea is as thrilling as it sounds, the question will be whether Tecno will make this futuristic look functional for everyday use.
