Local MP David Burton-Sampson urged the public to avoid the area, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “I am aware of an incident at Southend Airport. Please keep away and allow the emergency services to do their work. My thoughts are with everyone involved.”
Essex Police confirmed they were alerted around 4 PM to a collision involving a 12-meter plane. In a statement, they said, “We remain on the scene and are working with emergency services. Investigations will take several hours, and we ask the public to avoid the area.”

Videos circulating online show a huge fireball followed by thick black smoke rising from the crash site. The cause of the accident remains unknown.
As a precaution, authorities evacuated nearby locations, including Rochford Hundred Golf Club and Westcliff Rugby Club, due to their proximity to the incident.
The East of England Ambulance Service deployed multiple units, including four ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, and hazardous area response teams. Air ambulance services were also dispatched to assist.
