If your Aadhaar number has suddenly become ‘deactivated’ because your information has been mistakenly recorded in the death record, then now you do not need to panic! The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a special ‘reactivation’ process for such cases. This often happens when there is a discrepancy in the data or a mistake is made in the death registration process, due to which it is assumed that the Aadhaar number holder has died. UIDAI deactivates the Aadhaar number of the deceased person. But now you can easily reactivate it.

How to Reactivate Your Aadhaar

You can reactivate your inactive Aadhaar by following these easy steps:

Aadhaar Card

Submit the Request

First of all, you have to prepare a request letter in the prescribed application format. You can submit it through the post, by email, or in person at your nearest regional office or state office.

Submit Biometric Information

After receiving the request, the concerned office will check your application. Within two weeks of receiving the application, the Aadhaar number holder will be called to the Aadhaar Center under the supervision of a UIDAI officer. There, you will have to give your complete biometric information (face, iris, and fingers). This is extremely important for the verification process.

Check Aadhaar Status

Within 30 days of submitting biometric information, the concerned office will inform you about the status of your request. The status of settlement of your request will also be informed to the Aadhaar number holder through SMS. Additionally, you can also check your Aadhaar status online on the ‘myAadhaar’ portal.

Information required for Reactivation

To reactivate your Aadhaar, you will need to provide the following information:

Aadhaar Number

Name, Gender, and Date of Birth

Address, District, and State

Mobile Number and Email, if available

Parents’ Aadhaar Details, if you are below 18 years of age

Signature or Thumb Impression, Place and Date

This information will help UIDAI to ensure your identity and reactivate your Aadhaar correctly.

Registrar of Births and Deaths will also be informed

Information about the reactivation of your Aadhaar number will also be given to the Registrar of Births and Deaths. A copy of this will also be sent to the Registrar General of India and the Aadhaar number holder. This process ensures that all relevant records are updated and the chances of such mistakes are reduced in the future. This is an important step to maintain transparency and accuracy.
