It is easy to book a current reservation ticket on IRCTC, but there are some important things to keep in mind. The availability of current reservation tickets is limited, and they are meant for passengers who are travelling at the last minute. What is a Current Reservation Ticket?
A current reservation ticket is given after the final chart of the train is made. The seats that are empty or cancelled after the chart are sold as current tickets. These tickets are for people who book at the last minute.
How to Book a Current Ticket on IRCTC?
Step 1: Log in to IRCTC
- Open the IRCTC website or the IRCTC Rail Connect App
- Log in using your User ID and Password
Step 2: Fill in Travel Details
- From the Station – where your journey will start
- To Station – your destination
- Date of Travel – the date should be today or tonight
- Choose GENERAL in Quota (Current ticket shows only in General Quota)
Step 3: See the Train List
- You will see a list of trains running that day
- Click on “Availability” next to the train you want
Step 4: Check Current Availability
- Look for “CURRENT AVAILABLE” in seat details
- This option shows only after the chart is made, usually 3-4 hours before train time
Step 5: Book Your Ticket
- Choose class: SL, 3AC, 2AC, etc.
- Fill in the passenger’s name, age, and gender
- Pay by UPI, card, or net banking
When Can You Book a Current Ticket?
- You can book a current ticket after the first chart is made, around 8 hours before the train time.
- For example, if the train leaves at 6 AM, the chart may be made at 9 PM the night before, and you can book the ticket after that.
