Bharat Bandh– More than 25 crore employees associated with central and regional labor organizations will go on a nationwide strike on Wednesday in protest against the new labor laws and privatization. There is a possibility of disruption in banking, postal and other services due to the strike of employees. Let us understand what is the reason for the strike and what all will be affected by it.
What is the reason for the strike?
The workers’ organizations have announced a nationwide strike to put pressure on the government to demand minimum monthly wages of Rs 26,000 and restoration of the old pension scheme. Central workers’ organizations like the Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), INTUC and AITUC are insisting on the removal of four labor codes, privatization of public enterprises, abolition of contract system, increase in minimum wages to Rs 26,000 per month, as well as the demands of farmers’ organizations for minimum support price and loan waiver.
Which organizations are with you?
The labour organisations participating in the strike include INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC. Regional organisations like Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and NREGA Sangharsh Morcha have also extended their support to the strike. However, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has said that it will not participate in the general strike, calling it politically motivated.
Which services will be affected?
As per report, labour unions say that the strike may disrupt services in sectors such as banking, insurance, postal, coal mining, highways and construction. Protests will be held in these industrial areas and in some areas banking, postal services and services of public sector companies may be closed or affected.
This means that you will face problems in facilities like withdrawing money from the bank, check clearance and customer service. Also, the offices of insurance companies will also remain closed. In such a situation, if you have important banking work like cash withdrawal, check deposit or any documentation process, then complete it before July 9. However, digital services will continue as before.
Will banks, post offices and stock markets also remain closed?
Although no official holiday has been declared by banks, post offices and stock markets on July 9, services are expected to be disrupted. At the same time, the bullion market is also expected to be affected. However, services ranging from stock market trading to online banking will continue as before.
